A strut is a combination of a shock absorber and a coil spring
Shock absorbers or strut assemblies.
Could be the wheels are out of balance. Could also be in need of shock or strut replacement.
The difference is in the front. The Super had a strut front end vs. the shock towers on the standards. The spare tire also lays flat in a super. From the "A" pillar back the super and standard are the same car.
busted shock, spring or strut
worn shock/strut/ spring.
Press on all four corners of the car. Look for how long the car bounces and listen for the squeak. It could be a shock or strut, or in older vehicles a worn pad between leaf springs.
shock absorber or strut loose bolts
Starting with any one corner of the car, force the car to bounce as hard as you can. If the car continues to bounce more than one and a half times after you stopped forcing it, the shock or strut in that corner is gone bad. Test each corner.
Shocks use springs as a separate component. Struts have springs built in and are considered to be one unit. You also must note that a Strut also has a combined control along with the rack-pinion of the steering system ... as to where the shock whether it be a shock or a coil-over shock only control the jounce of the springs.FYI Strut in it's simplest meaning is a brace or to brace ...meaning if you remove the componet will the vehicle drop to the point where it is immovable...Car makers are making coil over shocks that play the role of Struts.
strut as in English
In automotive nomenclature, commonly known as the MacPherson Strut, named after the inventor, it is a suspension component, sometimes serving as the load-carrying suspension for independent suspension applications, and does double-duty as a shock absorber. In that respect you can say it takes the place of a wishbone, double wishbone, or A-Frame. It is surrounded by a coil spring. in some cars, Toyota being one among others, there is a rear torsion bar that does part of the load-carrying of the weight of the car, and a Strut to carry part of the load and serve as shock absorber. A car that does not have struts has either coil springs, or leaf springs or air bladders and shock absorbers. Also there are other 'struts' on a car, a brace between any two parts. An example of this is the brace, or strut, that goes from chassis to engine block to prevent engine from twisting under torque during acceleration.
1986-1994 models # Loosen but dont remove the upper mount-to-shock tower nuts # Raise and support car # Remove the wheel and tire assembly # Remove the brake flex line-to-strut bolt # Remove the strut-to-knuckle pinch bolts # Using a suitable tool spread knuckle-to-strut pinch joint slightly # Using a suitable prybar place top of bar under fender apron and pry down on knuckle unil strut separates from knuckle be careful not to pinch the brake hose
