"Freon" is the product name of the refrigerant GASused in air conditioning systems. Freon is compressed and expanded to cool the INSIDE of the vehicle.

Antifreeze is a LIQUID that is circulated through the engine to keep the engine from melting down. When an engine is running it generates a lot of heat. If the heat is not dissipated, the engine will fail. Water is used to cool the engine and antifreeze is mixed with the water to prevent freezing in the winter and to prevent rust the rest of the time. The water/antifreeze is pumped through the engine then when the water is hot it is pumped through the radiator where it is cooled and pumped back through the engine.
