The Smilodon or Sabre-tooth tiger was a very large and robust member of the cat family, but is not closely related to any modern tigers or cats. It had 9 inches fangs and particularly well-developed forelimbs The modern tiger has about 4 inch fangs.
Modern tigers continue to live in parts of Asia. Smilodon died out in the Americas about 10,000 years ago.
