In general, you dial a fax number on a fax machine exactly the same way you would dial the same number on a landline telephone at the same location.

The telephone country code for the United States is +1.

The default international access prefix for outbound international calls from Australia is 0011. However, the prefix 0015 may be used to send a call over the Telstra network, with settings optimised for fax transmission.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)

Same as the dialling code, 0011. However, you can also use certain other 001x prefixes, such as 0015, which selects the Telstra network and selects certain settings optimised for faxing.

The United States, Canada, and several Caribbean/nearby islands are in country code +1. The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." The default prefix from Australia is 0011, but there are several other prefixes from Australia, including the 0015 prefix which routes an international call on the Telstra network with settings optimized for fax transmission. Your long-distance carrier may have a different prefix.

Dial

001x = international access prefix (see above)

1 = country code for North America (USA, Canada, etc.)

area code = 3 digits

local number = 7 digits

The telephone country code for the United Kingdom is +44, and you must drop the leading 0 from the UK number. For example, Manchester's area code 0161 becomes +44 161.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The telephone country code for the United States is +1, followed by a 3-digit area code and a 7-digit subscriber number.
