The first step in securing a network is knowing what you have; you need to conduct a security audit of the environment. In order to secure and protect a network you need to know what is in it, then find the risks with those areas, and the vulnerabilities associated with the risks. Then you assign the probabilities of being exploited via those weaknesses and decide on how to mitigate the risk (or eliminate it, if possible).
But the first step is always the information audit.

∙ 9y agoWell there are many steps you can take. If you don't have money for computer security program, start off with not clicking on any advertisements. Including ANY email you don't know the address from. That's where most hackers get you. Don't download any programs you don't 100% trust, there are a they programs you can get that will test whether it is safe to open or not. I have heard about one called sandbox but have not used it.
