Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor Her given (first and

middle) names are Elizabeth Alexandra Mary. Her family name

by birth is Windsor. However, her paternal line formerly had

the surname Saxe-Coburg-Gotha which was the surname of Queen

Victoria's husband. In 1917, King George V, Elizabeth's

great-grandfather, changed the family name to Windsor. On

Elizabeth's marriage to her third cousin, Philip Mountbatten (the

Duke of Edinburgh, formerly the Prince of Greece and Denmark), she

did not adopt his family name but continued as a Windsor. Philip's

surname Mountbatten is actually an anglicised version of Philip's

mother's family/maiden name, Battenberg. However, by

paternal descent, (his father was Prince Andrew of Greece

and Denmark), Philip is a member of the Danish-German House of

"Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg." If Philip had continued

to use the surname of his father, and if Elizabeth had adopted her

husband's surname on her marriage to him, her full name now would

be

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary

Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. In addition to her

personal name she has many titles. * For more information see
