∙ 12y agoYes renin is an enzyme and it is used in the renin-angiotensin system to increase the blood pressure in the body, it converts angiotensinogen (already present in the blood) to angiotensin I which is converted to angiotensin II by another enzyme ACE present in the respiratory capillaries in higher concentrations than in other parts of the body. Angiotensin II increases the blood pressure.
People also call it a hormone, but it is functionally classified as an enzyme.

There is also another enzyme called rennin, which is an enzyme used in digestion in the GI tract, don't get them confused
