The continental US would include Alaska but not Hawaii, and this computation was never promulgated for the short period in 1959 when Alaska was a state but not Hawaii. It would be very close to the geographic center of the entire 50 US states.
For the entire 50 states, it is in western South Dakota. near the county seat of Belle Fourche, SD.
Considering only the 48 contiguous states, the center is in north central Kansas near the town of Lebanon.
