Confucianism began in China, perhaps in Shandong province. The city of Qufu, in Shandong province, is near the locations where Confucius is supposed to have lived much of his life.

Islam began in the city of Mecca, Arabia, although Muslims claim any "original" form of monotheism is Islam. Muhammad began his preaching in Mecca.

Judaism hails from the Mideast, primarily from what is now Israel and vicinity, although there was some Babylonian (i.e., Iraqi) and Egyptian influence in its formation. Hebron, in the West Bank; Mount Sinai, on the Sinai peninsula; the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates, in Iraq; and, yes, Jerusalem itself, could claim being places of Jewish origin.

Christianity began in the Galilee region or somewhere near the Jordan River. This is pretty close to where Judaism started.

Hinduism, like Judaism, is a bit hard to pinpoint, but it came from India. Place names in the Vedas suggest a north Indian origin, around the area of the Indus Valley civilization, although the Ganges, considered a sacred river by Hindus, might have also been involved. Varanasi is considered an old and holy city by Hindus, and that place might also have played a role in Hindu origins.

Buddhism probably began in northeastern India; according to the Tripitaka, Buddha had achieved enlightenment and started his monastic order at the Bodhi tree, in Bodh Gaya, India, not all that far away from Varanasi. Rajgir, Sarnath, Sravasti, Sankassa, and Vaishali, all in India, are all associated with the Buddha, and thus with Buddhism's origins.
