Several states have 42 North latitude as its northern or southern border.

California, Nevada, and Utah have this line on its northern border and Oregon and Idaho have it on its southern border. The 42nd latitude intersects multiple states in the US from Wyoming in the west to Massachusetts in the east.

The "49th parallel" is the boundary between Canada and the US, all the way from the

Strait of Juan de Fuca between British Columbia and Washington state, eastward to

the only place where the contiguous US extends north of it, in Minnesota. No other

state has its territory 'crossed' by the 49th.

So even though the 49th borders four states and crosses part of a fifth one, it's only

in the US for about 18 miles ... all on the Lake of the Woods in Minnesota.
