Yes you can but be sure to release the pressure first. The filter should be changed once a year and is typically located on the left (drivers) side behind the sliding door in the rail system. Kind of hard to find but not hard to replace.
According to the 2005 Ford Expedition Owner Guide : With engine oil filter change : The 5.4 liter 3V engine takes : ( 6.6 liters / 7.0 U.S. quarts of 5W-20 ) Also , the ( Motorcraft FL-820-S engine oil filter is used )
If you look at the cover on the brake fluid reservoir, it should read DOT 3
