It depends on the nature of the noise.
Serious engine knock or valve train noise. Have this looked into by a pro.
the belt is probably loose or needs to be replaced, the pully need to be checked and tightened etc,
Could be motor mounts or transmission. You could check them by usesing pray bar on all the mounts to see if there broken.
it could be your valves or your engine
Hello, my suggestion would be just opening the hood when the noise goes on. Try to locate where the noise comes from. I have similar problem with my Taurus 2000 SE. It occasionally makes the noise somewhere under the hood. I sent the car to pep boys today. they were not able to locate the noise because it was quiet . so i have to wait until the noise goes up again and open the hood and see.
If it's the intake manifold, the car won't run very well - if at all. The exhaust manifold will make a loud noise and you should be able to smell the fumes under the hood. Also, it will most probably make a snapping and popping noise when you decelerate.
depends on what car it is and what engine ur running under your hood
it sounds like the belt is breaking
A loud fast clicking noise is usually indicative of a low battery or a loose cable.
The cv shaft
There are some unknowns here. 1. Did you shut it off and it made a noise, OR 2. Did the car stop running suddenly, making a noise? If you shut the car off, some quiet noises are normal. You may hear the fuel pump from the rear of the car for a couple seconds, and you may hear a solenoid under the hood for a second or two, or the electric radiator fan after the car is shut off. The other question is what kind of noise was it? A loud bang? A whoosh noise, a scrape noise? Did the engine seem to try and keep running? Please add more detail and I'll try to help.
