I'm not sure there is anything like a 'typical' English meal. There are the stereotypical English dishes like 'fish & chips', 'roast dinners' and 'bangers & MASH' and although they are common favourites, you wouldn't find many houses having them on a daily basis.
Cuisine is very international and supermarkets generally stock a very wide range of fresh and prepared foods including Caribbean, Mexican and Indian and Chinese ingredients. Cookery programmes are very popular on TV.
I don't know if my house is typical or not, but the evening meals we had this week;
Monday : Tuna pasta bake, salad.
Tuesday : Pizza.
Wed : Meal out - fish & chips! (first time in about 6 months)
Thu : Cottage pie.
Fri : Macaroni Cheese & chips.
Sat : Vegetable curry, rice, naan bread.
Sun : Red Onion & Rocket Fritatta (thick omelette), peas, potatoes.
(And for American readers - English chips are like jumbo fries, not potato chips which we call 'crisps').
The meal pattern in the United Kingdom is breakfast, lunch, and dinner or supper. Dinner is when the largest meal of the day is consumed.
The typical daily meal pattern for someone in England is pretty much the same as people in the United States. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I eat toast or cereal, like corn flakes, usually with a cup of tea or coffee.

They didn't. The Romans ate three meals a day just as we do, and their main meal of the day was in the evening just as ours.
For the same reason we have only one main meal. For the Romans it was dinner, just as it is for most of us. They had lighter meals or snacks for both breakfast and lunch, sometimes away from home, so dinner was when the family got together and had their main meal.
