I am not sure of New Yorks laws, but as a parent of 2 children with different disabilities, I am very aware of inclusion classrooms. Both of my children have IEP's on file. My understanding of inclusion classrooms is just that, they are to "include" the children in the classroom in as best they can to a normally functioning classroom. They do accomodate your child's disabilities, whatever that might be, for example; sitting close to the board, having their assignments read to them, etc. But, the ratio would be child to teacher depending on grade level. In our state, for example, in kindergarten its 12:1. So, there are 2 teachers for a class of 24 children. There would be more help if needed for a child with disabilities if it was needed. If you contact your local schoolboard, Im certain they would tell you the ratio. Hope this helps.
