The definition of the word "politics" depends on the context in which it is used. The straight forward definition means that politics is the science and art of governence. Politics concerns the act of running a governent or in creating a government. Politics can be used to describe a persons view of laws and governmental policies. In a negative fashion, it can be used to describe actions that are motivated not by sound, fair, or reasonable policies. For example, it could be said that "politics" was behind the scheme to keep an army base open in Texas. Kept there as all reasonable factors would indicate it should be closed. But left open because of the political influence of Senators and /or governor of that State.
