I put one third of an 8" soda straw ( used as a dip tube) into 2 quarts of kerosene. be sure to use a clear straw so you can see how much you are putting in,,, you can also use an eye dropper if you want...Good Luck
Under typical distillation conditions, ethanol can only be purified to 95% with 5% water remaining. There are additional techniques that can be used to remove the remaining water to make it anhydrous (no water). Do not confuse 95% alcohol with 95% denatured alcohol. In denatured alcohol the remaining 5% is composed of other alcohol impurities like methanol, propanol, and butanol, to name a few.
Rubbing alcohol can remove gum because is a solvent for gum.
These pigments are more soluble in alcohol.
Usually kerosene is refined such that it contains less than 100 ppm water. When water is added to kerosene it becomes cludy in appearance. To remove water from hydrocarbons, they are passed over molecular sieves which bind the water to sites on the resins but allow hydrocarbons such as kerosene and gasoline to pass unhindered.

denatured alcohol
Denatured alcohol or methylated spirits is ethanol that has additives to make it poisonous, extremely bad tasting, foul smelling or nauseating, to discourage recreational consumption. Denatured alcohol will remove latex and shellac based paint but will do nothing to oil based paint.
using organic substances like kerosene or alcohol
Put denatured alcohol to a cloth, and rub until it comes off
You can remove latex paint with denatured alcohol. (You should be able to find it in a hardware store.) I do not know how denatured alcohol would react on cowhide. I would suggest testing a very small spot to check the results before proceeding with paint removal.
Why would you want to use alcohol use air to blow the dust off or a vacuum to remove it

I'm not sure but I have used rubbing alcohol to remove glue on my bamboo flooring and it works. Just pour some on the spot, let it sit for about 5 mins. or more and then rube it off with a wast cloth or something like that. I'm sure that denatured alcohol will work as good or even better since it's higher in concentrate than rubbing alcohol. GOOD LUCK!!
Kerosene smell car carpet
We have a Purell dispenser in my classroom. We have found that this alcohol based hand sanitizer will remove Sharpie permanent marker from desk tops. This might not work on fabric, but it is worth a try. VERIFICATION: I know from long experience that alcohol - particularly denatured alcohol (hardware store) will remove permanent marker from clothing, though it may take a couple of applications.
You can try using denatured alcohol if it was latex paint. But it is probably cheaper and easier to just replace the vinyl cove base.
