The Cold War created two or more cultural elements that caused a cultural clash mainly between America and the USSR. First the Cold War created a situation whereby both the USSR and the USA had nuclear weapons and a culture of fear developed as a new war would almost destroy the entire world. Secondly the fact that the "Western world" was allowed to develop free and diverse societies and held elections was totally different in the Cold War where communist regimes were installed in the formerly non communist nations of Eastern Europe. There was the clash of the ideas of free societies and communist societies where no only was everything regulated but people were trapped in those nations and it was difficult to escape. In Berlin, escaping from the east to the west was a deadly risk. Thus the Cold War brought on a clash of cultures, one culture was free and diversified and the other culture was not.
