What is the problem when a 2004 ford expedition is put in reverse or drive but does not move just acts as if it is in neutral?

First think make sure the Transmission Fluid level is full... When was the transmission last service? Also, have you tried changing the transmission fluids and filter? I would try these things before any expensive repairs are done...
