GM specifies that you use Dex-Cool because of the internal properties of the engine. However, I've also read that Dex-Cool has been known to destroy the valve cover gaskets/head gaskets because of some of the chemicals [known as plasticizers] that are present in this type of antifreeze. In the end, I'm still not sure which antifreeze I should use, but I have also read that a mixture of Dex-Cool and universal antifreeze works best.
