My manuals say it uses the MA, AF which is an automatic transmission fluid. If your 1992 has the NP 231 Xfer case, the capacity is 3.3 pints. I have a 1991 & I think they have the same Xfer case.

try disconnecting the battery.
check the shift linkage from the dogleg to the transfer case.the bolt on the linkage may have come out causeing it not to lock it
no no. the shape is slightly different, and the mounting brackets are very different.
