If you have a small oil leak that gets a little oil on the exhaust manifold, it will cause a strong odor. Steam clean or pressure wash the engine then run it briefly to see if you see any new oil on from the rocker cover or anywhere else that might leak onto the manifold. http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=S001&UserAction=viewSimpleDiagInfo&Parameters=info

What is the reason for performing a dyno test on an engine?

The main reason for performing a dyno test on an engine is to make sure the engine is running smoothly after changes have been made. When you adjust things like fuel and air, you still need to make sure the engine is running properly.

What is wrong with a 90 LeSabre Custom 3.8L if it idles rough and stalls when going from park to drive after it overheated?

If you severely overheated the engine, the cylinder heads or intake manifold may either have warped or blown their gaskets. This creates among other things a vacuum leak which will cause the idle speed motor/solenoid to go crazy.

98 z71 starts and runs very rough then slams into gear and dies what could cause this?

I have to guess at a few things but.. I am guessing because the engine has serious problem with how it is running the engine computer has increased the idle speed very high to try and keep it running. If this is the case putting it into gear will bang very hard and drop the engine speed to below what the engine control computer can keep it running. So it quits. Get the engine fixed.

What causes a 17 hp engine to stop running when it gets hot?

More than likely the coil is breaking down and needs to be replaced. The other things that could cause this is that there may be debris under the engine cover that is keeping the cooling fins from blowing air accross the cylinder head. This will make the engine get hotter than normal and shut it down. If you remove the metal engine cover it should be obvious if this is the problem.

Will your car fix itself after overheating?

Usually it doesn't work like that. You basically need to check why it has been overheated. If it was because of you didn't have enough of coolant than you need to add coolant and check for leakage. If it happened because of the thermostat failure, you need to replace the thermostat and then drive the car. Other things might cause overheating too. PS: You have to be careful when you are dealing with an overheated engine.

What happened when a 2001 Chevy coversion van run hot?

You can blow a head gasket for one thing. You can also warp the heads. All sorts of bad things can happen when an engine runs hot. Your first priority is to find out why it overheated.

If I disconnect the elbow on the PCV valve and there is suction and engine try to stall is that good?

Yes, that is good. FYI, if you continue to unplug things while the engine is running you may cause the check engine light to come on.
