The manual for the 5.7 vortec says 22 ft. pounds and then gives different angles of turn for a second step. But I have done it twice and used 3 steps and had no problems step one-25 ft pounds step two-50 ft pounds step three-70 ft pounds that has worked for me

I know on my vortec engine the valve cover bolts are in the center of the cover and there is only 4, my racecar has vortec heads and my truck has standard stock heads with four bolts on thew corners

No! The angle of the intake bolts are not the same. Also The vortec heads will make more hp so you probably will not want to use standard Heads..
No such thing as a DE-TORQUE pattern.Just remove the bolts from the heads from front to back.
