Traditional photographs taken for a wedding:

  • Before going to the church the photographer generally takes several pictures of the bride; then the bride and her mother and then pictures of the bride with her matron of honor and bridesmaids and this can be done at the bride's home or the photographer's studio.
  • The photographer will take certain pictures in the church such as the maid of honor; bridesmaids; bride on her father's arm coming down the aisle and only certain pictures at the altar.
  • When the bride and groom have said their vows and they are man and wife and turn to go back up the aisle and out of the church and into the limo or car the photographer will take several pictures.
  • Before the wedding the photographer would have sat down with the bride and decided on where wedding pictures of the bride, groom wedding party including the bride and grooms parents would be taken. The photos could be taken in a park area; on the beach or anywhere where there is a nice backdrop. These pictures may take from one hour to two hours to be taken properly as the photographer will take many pictures so the bride and groom can pick out the best pictures they like.
  • When entering the reception hall the MC will announce 'Mr. & Mrs.' and the Photography will take a picture of that; possibly pictures of the head table where the bride, groom and wedding party are seated.
  • If there is a 'receiving line' where the guests file by the bride and groom to congratulate them the photographer will take pictures of that.
  • The photographer will take pictures of the bride dancing the first dance with the groom; then with her father; the groom dancing with his mother; then the bride dancing with her father-in-law and the groom dancing with his mother-in-law. Then then maid of honor dancing with the best man and the bridesmaids dancing with the ushers.
  • Cutting of the cake
  • When the groom takes off his brides garter to throw to the single men.
  • When the bride throws her bouquet to her single friends.
  • Depending on what the bride has planned as far as how many pictures she wants the photographer to take he will stay for the reception and take other photos of guests, etc., or, some photographers will leave after taking pictures of the bride; groom and their parents.

Note: Ask a few friends to bring their camera and if you have a relative with a video camera get them to bring it as well. Many funny shots and good shots can be taken by guests.
