It depends on if you have a manual or an automatic transmission. aut is 3and a half quarts of subaru automatic transmission fluid, a manual is about a gallon of 80W-90 gear lube
Unfortunately, you need to pour the transmission fluid into the dipstick hole. Found in Subaru owners manual
There is a diPstick at the front on the transmission differential
owners manual will tell you
The manual specifies only Subaru fluid. If this is not available Dexron III can be used until Subaru fluid is available. Noise and hard shifting will be the result.
Listed in your owner's manual.
75W-90 or GL-5, same thing.
A 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback requires: For automatictransmission: DEXRON III For manual transmission: GL5 75W90 gear oil
Subaru recommends to use GL-5 (75W-90) Transmission Gear Oil.....
What is the transmission fluid capacity on a 2001 subaru forester?
there is no fluid for a manual transmission
There is no gauge according to your owners manual. As such you would not know if it needed fluid so adding fluid would not be wise. Service is done by the Subaru dealer. Good to have one less maintenance item, isn't it?
