Many people falsely believe the flag is worn backwards. When a soldier deploys to a combat zone, they wear the flag on the right sleeve. The stars always point towards the battle - i.e., the front.

Where on the Army uniforms do the patches go?

According to AR 670-1 chapter 28-17: Updated 3 February 2005It would depend on which patch you refer to. "US Army" is positioned centered over the left breast pocket. The soldier's last name is positioned centered over the right breast pocket. The current unit patch is positioned on the right shoulder, 1/4 inch from the American flag that is centered 1/2" from the shoulder seam, corresponding tabs go on top of the patch, and if there is a tab, the unit patch is positioned immediately below and touching that. Combat unit patches are positioned on the left shoulder, likewise to the right side. The new uniforms are already equipped with hook and loop patches to make positioning easier and removal for combat operations easier yet. Rank insignia are now positioned on the button flap, at the center of the chest.See the link below for the applicable AR.

How is War on Terror similar to Vietnam war?

They're not. The North Vietnamese Army wore uniforms and had a national flag; just like the German Army did in WWII. The North Vietnamese Air Force flew MiG 17s, MiG 19s, and MiG 21 jet aircraft; just like the German Luftwaffe flew Ju88s, ME109s, and FW190s in WWII. Terrorists have no flag.

Why is the flag on the Scout uniform displayed wrong?

Category:Boy Scouts of AmericaThe flag patch on the BSA uniform is worn properly. So is the flag worn on the uniform of many law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical services and astronauts. Page 76 of the 12th Edition of the Boy Scout Handbook notes the difference between the BSA and the U.S. Army methods of wearing the flag, and that the BSA method is in compliance with the U.S. Flag Code. The US Flag Code has no guidance on the wear of the flag patch, nor on the use of flags on vehicles. When the US Flag is depicted on a vehicle, the tradition is to show the standard flag on the left side and the reverse on the right so that it appears to be advancing. The BSA started wearing the flag patch on the uniform in 1972, using the standard flag. Cub Scouts initially wore the flag over the right pocket, then it was moved to the right sleeve. The US Army wore the standard flag patch on some uniforms during World War II. They began wearing the reverse flag patch during operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Army refers to it as the U.S. flag cloth replica. Other services do not wear the US Flag on uniforms.

What do the San Diego Padres have a backwards American flag on their jerseys?

Because in military use, ie. on uniforms, planes, tanks, etc, the flag is pictured so that the stars always lead (as if it were flying from a pole that you were carrying with you). The camouflage uniforms are a a military tribute and since the patch is on the right sleeve it is situated in reverse. If it was on the left sleeve it would look the way you are used to seeing it.

Where is the American Flag being worn on uniforms?

It depends on the agency's or department's unifiorm regulations. Some wear a patch on their shoulder - some on the chest - still others wear the flag as a pin on their uniform or attached to their nametag - some others do not wear it at all. .

Why wear American flag patch on the right side shoulder?

When another patch is displayed, the American flag is to be positioned in the superior position (right side) with the union closest to the bearers heart. This is titled as a "reverse flag patch" and signifies or displays the flag as moving forward! Many naturally assume that the flag should be worn in the position closest to the heart. This is true only when there is no other flag or patch to be displayed.
