Its overhaul time for your tranny sorry to say.
Could be your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is bad.
I would check the transmission fluid, if the level is good i would get the transmission diagnose you may need to remove or replace the transmission.
Yes, in the transmission.
High RPM's in your engine which can be caused by a bad idle control motor, low transmission fluid, or bad hydraulics in the transmission, or maybe a bad gear.
To remove the console shift knob on the AT 1993 Olds Achieva, first pry the cover from the top of the shift knob. Then, access the single screw inside the cover of the shift knob and turn it counter-clockwise to release the knob.
transmission problems
I would hazard that either the transmission fluid is low, badly worn or a transmission filter needs replacing or both.
Could be one of three V6 engines or a Chevy V8. The transmission won't bolt up to the Olds motor. However, you can change the motor mounts.....Use the ones for a Cutlass and a Buick, Olds, Pontiac transmission.
You can check the automatic transmission fluid on an Olds Alero by finding the check plug. It is located about half way down on the transmission. Loosen the plug and slowly pull it out.
