theres a pressure switch just above brake pedal under the dash probably bad
The part of the car that turns on the brake lights when you apply pressure to the brake pedal is called the brake switch. Releasing pressure from the pedal causes the brake switch to break its electrical contact, turning off the lights.
If you have the same bulb for brake and signal, brake light power needs to be interrupted by the signal lights, The brake circuit has to go through the signal light switch so the problem could be there.
May be stop light switch--usually located at the upper end of the brake pedal under dash
Have an electrician check the wiring that goes to the brake lights in the trunk of the car.
a common fault on some ford is that the earthing points for the electrical system corrode, and cause a bad earth. this can play havock with the light etc. Try cleaning them up. they are usually postioned on the * front - inside the engine bay on the left an right hand sides, behind the headlights * rear, somehwre around the rear lights. An easy way to tell if this is your problem would be to get another person to stand behind the car, and put the side lights on, indicators and brake lights at the same time, you may find that all the light go mental, in which case it is your earths!
The brake lights and the tail lights are separate circuits. Check the brake light fuse, then check the brake light bulbs, then check the brake light switch.
Possible ground issue at the taillights.
they are not brake lights they are fog lights and they turn on because it is for the car behind to see you
Check the fuse for the headlights. It is probably open.
Fuse for parking lights probably blown.
Often this type of behavior is caused by a bad ground for the lighting circuit. Check the ground circuit for the brake lights.
ummm... your brake lights should ALWAYS work whether your headlights are on or not, that's how people behind you know you are stopping.
Brake lights should NOT be effected by the headlights. Brake light function is completely independent of the headlights. Assuming you are not refering to the tail lights, or marker lights, which are supposed to come when the head lights are turned on. Not having brake lights when the head lights are on is a big safety problem and should be corrected.
the brake lights are on a separate cuircut,if your brake lights are staying then it will be a fault with the brake light switch. the switch is located under dash, and will be on or very close to brake pedal.
head lights
Most likely a fuse.
Is it the taillights or the brake lights? If taillights it may be a wiring problem, If brake lights check the switch on the brake pedal
