This problem is caused by the GM Theftlock system which is a security system that whenever the ignition is tampered with the vehicle cuts off fuel and refuses to start. The problem with this system is that there seems to be an issue in many GM vehicles where the system is faulty and constantly is tripping the system at random leaving owners stranded. The quick solution that is located in your owners manual is to leave your key in the "ON" position for appx 10 minutes until the "Security" or "Theft System" light stop blinking and become solid... then turn the key to "OFF" and attempt to restart the vehicle. This has never failed for me.. but is becoming annoying. My mother drives a 2004 Grand Am SE1 V6 and it has just started this problem... also I own a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu which started with this problem a few years ago which finally got fixed when I had my mechanic completely replace and re-key my ignition.. which may not be a solution for everyone.. but I am glad it worked for me.
You turn the ignition on, leave it in the on position until the security light stops flashing. It flashes 6 times, then the battery light comes on, then the security light flashes 6 more times. You have to make sure it stops flashing and just stays on. Then you can start your car. PS: If the engine does not start, then turn the ignition off to reset and then try to start it immedately. If this does not work try it again. It eventually starts, but patience is the key factor here.
I don't know exactly what it means but to avoid that lock and unlock your car the same time every time. If it does happen turn the key enough so that car doesn't start but the power and everything is on then wait 10-15 min and your security light school stop blinking and your fine.
It is possible the resistor in the key has come out. TAke it to a garage or dealer,
it means your ignition tumbler is bad. you need to replace it and have the dealership make a replacement key.
If you have a chip in your key the chip may have gone bad or your ignition is not reading it. the car thinks someone is trying to steal it & stops ignition process
94 camaro security light on car will not start
Yes, look in your owners manual, there are instructions on how to reset it. I believe you have to remove your key and wait 10 - 15 miutes before you try starting it again.
The car won't start because of the security system. The security system will either have to be bypassed (there are kits available on Ebay sometimes and there are some websites that have them too) or replaced. The ignition key has a built in resistor that the security system checks when you try to start the car. If the security system doesn't recognize the resistance of the key it won't start the car. Then you have to wait 2 to 10 minutes before it will start ( sometimes it's a lot longer than 10 minutes). You could try getting a replacement key and see if the security system recognizes it better. GM installed security systems in their vehicles that are called Passkey I, II and III. So if you get a kit you have to know which system is in your vehicle.
I ran out of gas with my 95 camaro and filled it up and started fine. Sounds like it may be a bad fuelpump/relay or fuse. Check the fuse and the relay. Any luck on figuring this out? I'm about to spend a grand!
fuel filter, pump, pressure regulator? security sensor issue? The fuel pump may not be working, if the fuel pump relay (if installed), is bad
it is possibly the starter. mine had the same problem
security feature built into headunit. take out the headunit and it disables the car. you have to go to a stereo shop and either get an adapter to bypass/or register this feature or just have the stereo shop put it in. if you put the factory radio back in and reset it following the steps in the owner's manual it should start again.
Read the book and I mean read it all!
It's called VATS bypass and you can get them on eBay cheap.
1967, for the Camaro SS.
yes
your battery may be dead or try unhooking your battery for 1 hour then hook back up and try again
I think that one just has to sit for an hour for the fuel pump to start working again, that is assumming, of course, you don't trip it again....
A Chilton's manual is a good place to start
first check to see if your getting spark, or fuel
if its an automatic it could be in the park/reverse safety switch my car works like thatAnswerYou will have to buy a new key from a dealership!!! 37.50 for my set from berger Chevy. The metal peice in the middle of your key with the rubber around it has worn out causing the link for the security to be incorrect thus not allowing you not to start your vehicle.
You can order a new Camaro from any Chevy dealer- right now. The scheduled start of production is set for March 14, 2009. Tech JK -------------
security light blinks car won't start. wait a few minutes and it starts. car does not have any alarms or keyless entry. it does have a chip in key
probably your security system . Search google for "Bypass GM Vats Security"
