Bad connection between the cable end and the battery post or a dead cell in the battery. When you jump a battery, the jumper cable is attached to the battery cable, not the battery itself. Clean the post, either top or side and the ends of the cables and try charging again. If it will not take a charge, it is a bad battery.

Can a lithium ion battery be overcharged?

Yes because it will have more charge because it has been there for a very long time A battery charger can overcharge a battery. Because now many battery chargers are used constant voltage source to charge battery. The charging current of the battery chargers is change. They detect △V to determine fully charged. But different battery show different △V. For example, before some battery is fully charged, the voltage has been dropped.however, after some other batteries has been charged for a long time, the voltage hasn't been dropped. And more, although the same battery during the old time and new time show different △V. So it is normal that the battery charger which used constants voltage will be overcharged battery

How do you charge golf cart batteries with 12 volt charger and how do you hook it up to the batteries still in the golf cart?

Not being sure of your golf cart voltage, I will give it a try. Count the caps on on batteries, each cap is two volts, so if you have three caps per battery, you have a 6 volt battery. Now count the batteries and multiply by battery voltage, 6 batteries times 6 volts equals a 36 volt system, and so on. You may only charge 12 at time with your charger, so you will have to remove a few battery to battery cables. The cables start with a positive post go to the main system of the cart, with it's neg post connected to the pos. post of the next battery in line, a so on until the last battery in line neg. post goes to the main system of the cart, making a full circle. You must separate the batteries in to 12 volt groups with the main system cables discounted from the main system to prevent damage to it. Remove the neg. cable first, and install it last, safety thing. Need more help contact me through my board and I will try to help.

When using a battery charger that is the charge rate in amps for starting a car?

It isn't adviseable to use a battery charger to jump start a car unless the charger has a jump selection on it. Most newer models do have this function. The best thing to do, whether your charger has the jump function or not, is to take out the battery and put it on a trickle charge - usually about 2 amps, until the battery itself is fully charged.

What do beeps indicate when charging GEM car?

Gem Beeps When your Gem Vehicle beeps when you are trying to charge it . This means your pack voltage of your battery pack is too low to take a charge. Your battery pack needs to have a certain amount of voltage to allow your charger to iniate a charge. You need to get a regular 12 volt battery charger and charge each battery individually . You do not have to disconnect the interconnects on each battery. Just charge each battery for about 2 hours on the 10 amp charge and then replug the onboard charger . Eventually it should start charging. Now if you charge each battery and the on board charger will not come on you may have destroyed the batteries and they need to be replaced/

Can a 40 amps jump start be used as battery charger?

Yes, but you cannot leave it for long periods of time or the battery will overheat and boil acid away. Normally a fully dead battery to a full battery should take about 2 hours to charge up at 40 amps.

Ford Ranger battery appears to be dead tried a battery charger and lights came on but clicking sound when I try to start it?

Check the level of the electrolyte (water) in the battery if possible. If it is near full, then reconnect the battery charger and charge it at the 2 AMP rate. This is known as a "trickle" charge. Your charger may have the 6 amp charge rate also. The amp meter on the charger will indicate a lower and lower reading as the battery is charging and accepts the charge. An Auto Zone can "load test" your battery for free if you can get it to one of their stores. Your battery sounds weak and needs a good charge (be patient...it takes time) or needs replacing.
