I saw it once before and the transmission did not last long. The plates in the torque got hot (either low or over-reved). The heat caused the discoloration. Does it smell cooked? Good luck!
Automatic is red. Manual is yellow-brown.
Pull the transmission dipstick, smell the fluid and notice the color. If the fluid is brown and smells burnt, it needs changing.
The color of transmission fluid is s clear red
Red
Most automatic transmission fluids are of red color (when original and unused). This is true for Dexron, Mercon and Type F fluids specifically.
Fluid is an Important part of any transmission, Taking care is hence important. Transmission fluid comes in dark red or brown color. As per the given instructions by the manufacturers one must check and replace it. The fluid needs to be changed after 12000 to 15000 mile drive. If the color of the fluid has turned to black this indicates Overdo. Its a wake up alarm for servicing the automatic transmission.
"Healthy" transmission fluid is typically a pinkish red color. If the transmission fluid is old or the transmission is overheating, the color of the fluid is dark red to brown.
Stick or auto? with a stick, the motor hesitates if any thing. with an automatic, check your fluid level, the color of it should be a redish pink. don't overefill. If color is sortof black or brown then change fluid and filter for tranny.
Assuming it is an automatic transmission, I would check the fluid level. When the transmission is warmed up, the level should read 'full' on the transmission dipstick. Check the color and smell of the oil. Does it smell burnt, or does it appear to be brown instead of red? Perhaps the filter screen is clogged.
Usually automatic transmission fluid is a reddish color. If you see red fluid on your driveway, then you probably have a transmission leak.
Normally red when new. Brown as it ages.
