I live in Florida. However, the truck was shipped from Cleveland, Ohio from my father. It has over 138,000 miles. I thought with older trucks and higher mileage, they require a thicker oil regardless of the warm weather. Shouldn't 10W30 or 10W40 be used?
Consult the drivers manual. The 5W-30 should be what it calls for. You could also use the "High Mileage" 5W-30 motor oil that is available.
5.7 liter vortec.
If it's a gasoline engine it takes gasoline. If it's a diesel engine it takes diesel.
The most common engine used was the 5.7L 350 V-8. But it may have the 6 cylinder in it. Count the spark plugs.
