The Caste System developed in South India and was brought by south Indians to the north. The rules of the Varnas (social division); the Varnas got stricter, then the social order became more complex. The rulers decided to divide the people into five groups, that's now called the caste system. 1.Brahmins were at the top because they were the priests. 2. Then it was the Kshatriyas because they were rulers and warriors. 3. Then it was the vaisyas which were the farmers and the traders. 4. Then it was the sudras which were workers and servants. 5. Lastly, it was the untouchables which used to do all the dirty work that people did not want to do like disposing dead animals.. Hoped it helped ;) - Emma-
Britishers discriminate people on basis of colour, caste, creed, etc . They treated Indians as slaves. They forced people to work under them.
Nothing, as they live of the state.
Maintaining State and National Forest
India has never had slavery in literal terms. However slavery was abolished by Indian law maker King Manu, but established caste system in which people from lower caste held little place in community and were forced to work as slaves by the people from higher caste. This tradition is still alive in India in some places despite laws being made for equal rights.
hinduism has fostered a spirit of resistance to change and progress, and the caste system has resigned people to accept poverty rather than work to better their condition.
Each person could choose his or her occupation

People who do the most meanial work in India, involving dirt, bodily functions, cleaning work, etc. are known as the "Untouchables". Other names used for this caste are "Scheduled Caste" due to the high frequency of being listed on government 'schedules' (for assistance/support); 'Dalit' (a Hindi word meaning "downtrodden"); and 'Harijans', a term used by Mahatma Gandhi, meaning "Children of God".
The lowest caste in India is traditionally considered to be the Dalits, also known as Untouchables. They face severe social and economic marginalization, discrimination, and prejudice. However, caste-based discrimination is officially prohibited in India by law.

Brahmen Kshatriya Vaishya Shudras Harijan Brahman were the priests or scholars of India. Kshatriya were the warriors, or landowners of India. Also rulers. Vaishya were the merchants and traders of India. Shudras were the common folk, the artisans, crafters, agriculturalists and peasants. Harijan are removed from the caste system but were once known as untouchables. they did the dirty work for India and weren't allowed to be touched. In India, you could not change your caste or marry outside of your caste within your life, but if you did your job and worked hard, you would be reincarnated through your faith in a better, higher up caste. Brahmens are the head, Kshatriya the arms, Vaishya the stomach, Shudras the legs and Harijan the "nether" region.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Untouchables are considered slaves in India. Untouchables are of the lowest level caste in Indian Society because they take care of the dirty work.
Every kind of work other people do... What else?
