Historians have greatly overestimated JFK since he was young, charismatic, and assassinated. He didn't have many successes as president, but that's partly because he only spent two years as president due to his death.
The good things he did were solve the Cuban missile crisis, pushed for a nuclear test ban treaty, and started the space race.
Some of the bad things include the Bay of Pigs Invasion, the building of the Berlin Wall, getting the USA involved in the Vietnam War, and he didn't do much for the African American Civil Rights Movement when racial segregation was prevalent.
He captivated the young and people who didn't know much about politics but were drawn to him for superficial reasons. Even so, he barely won the 1960 election.
