It was called the Equal Rights Amendment. It never got ratified so it was not really made into law. It is now before the Congress and President Obama. He want it to be passed and ratified. The women of the US do not have equal pay. I worked in a company doing the same exact job as another man. The company was an insurance company that was dominated by women employees. He worked in my unit. There were twelve women in my unit and the one man. He was paid more than we were. When I asked the female supervisor why he received more pay her answered shocked me. She said it was because he was the primary bread winner for his family and he needed the higher salary. This was in a unit with four or five women who were the sole bread winners for their kids. They did not get paid what he was paid. So this is still a problem that needs to be resolved in this nation. This is supposed to be a nation of meritocracy. Where merit determines who gets paid better not by gender.
In shorter words it is sexist.
