What makes a 19-year-old girl lie all the time and steal money from her mother?

Drugs and peer presure or the need for attetion in high school i was completely straight edge (no drugs no alcohol). I was that way for a variety of reasons (christian upbringing and that fact that i lived in a rural area and lived too far away from anyone my age to hang out after school until i got a car at 17) anyway, less than a week after graduation i got stoned for the first time and soon after drunk (slightly abnormal progression I know). Since then I've been on what you would call a downward spiral (ooo NIN) I am now a 2-3 daily canabis smoker (MINIMUM) smoke a pack of cigarettes a day and drink alcohol 5 days a week. The past few days I've been doing a fairly large amount of cocaine and I feel that I've reached a point where if I can't abstain from it tomorrow I will become a major cokehead. Over the course of my spiral I've started lying almost compulsively. I have always been about a fibber but over the past 3-4 years its become something different. Sometimes I lie for almost no reason. Basically when I do things that my Christian/Conservative upbringing has taught me to be wrong I start to worry that my frienfs/family (whoever I am around) will judge me and think me a terrible person so I just lie to cover up the smallest transgresion. I've also turned into a bit of a thief, though my thieving has never been serious, the just the occasional few dollars in quarters from someones changejar in order to fund a pack of cigarettes or whatnot. Having gone back and read that paragraph I feel like I make myself sound like the typical government Propaganda drug user, especially have graduated from soft drugs to harder drugs. In general I don't feel to badly about these years though, I attended college for a year and fully intent to go back when my 'wild years' are over (if I'm still alive *finger crossed). I think that maybe I got a preemptive strike on my older years when so many people say "I wish I had tried this" or "I wish I hadn't spent so much time working. I have enjoyed these drug years immensely year and have made some of the best and most intelligent, thoughtful and caring friends I'll ever make. Some people may think that all/most drug users are burnt out or limited/lessened by their drug use but I've seldom found this to be the case. I do live right next to the campus of a major Ivy League University (Cornell) and 75-85% of my friends are either current students or graduates. I've did not attend Cornell (I went to RIT for a year to study Computer engineering and am currently on hiatus). Anyway, the friends I've made are the most engaging and entertaining people I've ever seen or heard of. I've discussed and pondered concepts, ideologies and events that would never have crossed my mind before I started abusing substances. This was very rambling and maybe only semi-coherent but I'm wacked out on cocaine and felt the need to express a view of drugs that is rarely coherently (or even semi-coherently voiced). I'd post contact info for people who want to discuss but I've revealed more of my inner feelings and thoughts in this post than I've ever said to anyone ever (must be another side affect of the drug).
