If your engine is over heating it could get too hot and quit running, then start again when it gets cooled off.

Otherwise, "something" got too hot and quit working, cools off and works again.

Why is your car fine when you drive but when you switch off it is dead and cannot start and makes no noises?

When your car is running, it runs off of the alternator. The alternator charges the battery while the engine is running, unless it is faulty and not outputting any or enough voltage, usually 14.4 volts DC. When you go to start your car it uses battery power. That's why you can jump start a car with a dead battery and drive it.
