It depends on the engine type. On a 2.0 Petrol the recommended mileage to change the belt is 72,000mls, but you can always change it before.
At 144.000 miles or 10 years according to AUTODATA.

Up until 1991 the required replacement was at 60,000 miles. I have no information beyond 1991 for that engine. Look in your owner's manual or call a Peugeot dealer to get the latest requirement.
I have a 407 136 hdi with 123000 miles, been told by peugeot main dealer timing belt to be changed at 160,000!! I have just had a main agent confirm the interval on a 1.6hdi is 144,000 chang it now and bee on the safe side good then for 100,000
You don't change it. The Toyota Matrix has a timing chain that will last the life of the engine.
