The 289 and the 302 have the same order. Even though they are different size motors they are the same. Looking at the engine from the front of the car the order is:
1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8.
18436572
The firing order is ( 1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 ) The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE The # 1 position on the distributor cap faces AWAY from the engine The engine cylinders / spark plugs are numbered 1 to 6 , from front to rear
If you have a 389 (6.4L) the firing order from #1 cylinder is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. It might be stamped on the intake manifold. #1 cylinder is the front cylinder on the driver's side. You'll have to trace back the existing wire to identify the correct port in the distributor cap. Mark the cap with a sharpie pen for future reference.
ac delco plugs and premium wires i am a Pontiac 2 car owner and delco was standard
1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE
You will still have spark, car will try to start or backfire. If no spark at all the plugs see if you have GOOD spark from coil. If coil is working then you will find the problem in between the coil and the plugs, probably a distributor component issue. The ballast resister is a possible cause also.
1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE
6
1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 ( on your Ford straight 6 cylinder ) The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces AWAY from the engine
If it's a V8 it's 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and the distributor rotates counter-clockwise.
At the distributor: 4 degrees before TDC.
The 1966 Ford Mustang 200 cubic inch straight six spark plug gap is .032 to .036 inch
