Vanilla is derived from orchids of the genus Vanilla (making it the only fruit bearing member of the orchid family) which was originally native to Mexico.

Vanilla planifola, Vanilla tahensis, and Vanilla pompona are the three major variants and are grown around the world in Madagascar, Reunion, etc (Bourbon Islands), Tahiti & other South Pacific Islands, and Central/South America, respectively

Vanilla sugar does not come from a plant but rather is made by placing split vanilla beans in either regular (granulated) or powdered sugar.

In a few weeks the vanilla essence infuses itself into the sugar & it can then be used in various recipes

Vanilla can be grown from seeds from the Vanilla Bean Orchid that have matured for a nine month period. Since it is so difficult, this is difficult to achieve for the average gardener.

Vanilla flower as such is actually an orchid. Vanilla pods and vanilla essence come from the orchid plant. So its an orchid flower. Not a vanilla flower. :)

It is possible if you were able to faithfully reproduce the conditions they grow in naturally.
