While there were 27 "official" flags of the United States of America the significant changes in our flag were signed into being by only five (5) Presidents.
The first flag of the United States of America dates back to the Continental Congress resolution of June 14th 1777: 13 stars ands 13 stripes. John Hancock was the President of the Continental Congress at that time. The Flag Act of January 13, 1794 under then President George Washington specified 15 stars and 15 stripes. Then on April 4th 1818 The flag Act under then President James Monroe specified returning to 13 stripes and 20 stars, with a new star added on July 4th following the admission of each new state. On June 14th 1912 President William Taft signed an Executive Order specifying the exact proportions and sizes of the US flag, with the points of the 48 stars pointing upward in six rows of 8 stars each. On January 3rd 1959 President Dwight Eisenhower signed an Executive Order specifying the arrangement of 49 stars (Alaska statehood). And again on August 21, 1959 President Dwight Eisenhower signed an Executive Order specifying the arrangement of 50 stars (Hawaii statehood).
