Don't eat too much before a workout. I'd recommend eating something small at least an hour before starting. After, have a protein shake to help. I recommend PhD Diet Whey : it burns fat and increases muscle mass.

Eat after swimming, you will build up a appetite and its better for your body, if you must eat something before then make it a light snack. If you eat then swim it will leave you feeling sick with possible indegestion. Your body will not be able to digest the food properly.
