change it! though could be mixing with your radiator fluid (green+red=brown) not good
Transmission fluid should be a nice burgundy red color. If it is brown or black, this is a sign of transmission trouble. If the fluid smells burnt, the transmission will probably need replaced.
It should be red to dark maroon if it's brown or a yellow color it is burnt and should be changed
"Healthy" transmission fluid is typically a pinkish red color. If the transmission fluid is old or the transmission is overheating, the color of the fluid is dark red to brown.
# Check the level of the transmission fluid with the engine idling and the transmission in Park. # The transmission dipstick is marked with a max and min level. # The fluid level should be between these marks. # If it is low, top up the fluid (through the dipstick tube) to the max level (bottles of transmission fluid have an 'anteater' spout to make this easy). # If the fluid is a dark brown or black colour you should organise getting it changed and replaced with fresh fluid; this will greatly extend the life of the transmission. # Fluid in good condition should be ruby red.
when my 1992 camaro's transmission went bad it made a whining noise and when the fluid was checked, it was a brown color with flakes of metal in it. the fluid should be red.
Transmission fluid
Coolant should not be leaking from your transmission the only fluid in your transmission is transmission fluid. A faulty transmission seal can allow transmission fluid to leak out.
Drain out the transmission fluid and replace with the correct fluid. Some types of transmission fluid are incompatible with other types of tranmssion fluid or with the transmission itself, and can destroy your transmission.
Change it - to avoid a potential future problem.
The transmission fluid should be change every 30,000 miles
ATF is red when new, turns brown with age.
Brown fluid = burnt fluid (either dark brown or black in color) . In the early stages of slipping, a burnt smell will be the first noticeable indication.
