The Ford Taurus is famous for having leaking heater core. It is located on the passenger side inside the passenger compartment and inside the dashboard. It costs about $1000 to get a mechanic to fix it.
Heater core is probally leaking. Should be located under dash on passenger side.
2 things to look for with heater cores:Plugging up - poor cooling system maintenance can lead to the core plugging.Leaks - pretty self-evident with visible puddles and/or the smell of anti-freeze in the cabin / coming from heater vents.See "Related Questions" below for a good round-up of questions dealing with Taurus / Sable heating & cooling.
it should NOT.......you have a GAS leak fix it ...unless you overfill gas tank then maybe that's smell temp.
If it's a sweet smell then its probably a heater core leaking antifreeze.
Probably the heater core if it's not been raining. It should smell sweet also. If it's rain water then look for bad seals on the windshield, door, and passenger side body connection joints.
If it is a "rotten egg" sulfur smell it is bacteria. Flush the hot water heater and turn up the heat to between 130 and 140 degrees F.
A bad smell coming from the heater in a vehicle can indicate a bad heater core. One way to check this out is to see if the smell is worse when you sit in the passenger seat. If it is, there is a good chance the heater core is bad.
1) Leaking fluids inside the car 2) heavy steam build-up - and/or smell of anti-freeze inside the car. See "Related Questions" below for much much more about Taurus heating & cooling problems - and fixes.
Make sure it is full of coolant. There probably is a small leak causing the smell. Check it cold as sometimes it leaks cold but not hot.
Leaks - visible puddles of course, but also just the smell of anti-freeze inside the car is indicative of a heater core leak.Feel the heater hoses - both of them should be about equally hot when the engine is at operating temperature - the coolant flows through the core all the time.If one is cold, key indicator of a plugged core.See "Related Questions" below for more
