I would have to say it was being dead. George Washington was involved in the War for Independendence also known as the Revolutionary War, he was not alive during the Civil War.

General George B. McClellan, a major general during the American Civil War, organized the Army of the Potomac and led the Union Army as general-in-chief from November 1861 to March 1862.
There were several commanders or generals for the North during the Civil War. Some of the top commanders included Ulysses S. Grant, George McClellan, Robert Anderson, and George Custer.

Colleagues of George Sykes nicknamed him Tardy George. His colleagues also called him Slow Trot Sykes. During the American Civil War, Sykes was a Union General.
