Disconnect battery (very important!!!) There are bolts/screws that hold air bag to steering wheel. They screw into rear of steering wheel. Just unbolt, remove and disconnect electric conector.
The first thing to do when replacing an AU Falcon steering wheel is to disconnect the battery as there is an air bag that contains a small explosive material that is potentially dangerous. Next, find the screws that hold the steering wheel cover, located on the sides of the steering wheel (under round plastic covers that can be removed with a small screw driver). Use a Torq #9 screwdriver to remove the two screws underneath these covers. Carefully lift out the steering wheel hub & airbag. Unplug the airbag. Use a Torq #9 screwdriver to remove the center steering wheel bolt. Use a steering wheel puller per factory specifications to remove the steering wheel.
9 and 3
That would be the steering wheel.
steering wheel has to be pulled off and then you can take the top cover off the steering column to get to the screws that hold the switch in.
You have to pull the steering wheel off to get to the screws that hold the cover on.
The simplest way to explain it is to hold the very bottom of the steering wheel, and from there you turn the steering wheel in the direction you want the trailer to go.
Hold the steering wheel tightly and move it quickly counter clockwise. This movement should unlock it.
Pull the steering wheel Remove the steering wheel lock by compressing it and removing the small metal ring that holds it in place. Remove the screw that holds the bracket from the turn signal switch to the turn signal lever. Remove the screw that holds the knob on for the 4 way flashers. Remove the 3 screws that hold the turn signal switch and carefully slide the switch out. Remove the 2 screws that hold the key lock into the column and slide it out.
The popular belief is that having your hands at 10 and 12 is the safest way to drive, but this is wrong. According to AAA, the best way to hold the steering wheel is to place your hands at 9 and 3.
To remove the steering wheel in a 1988 Chevy Celebrity standard version: !. Remove the screws that hold the horn pad in place then remove it. Use a steering wheel puller to loosen then remove the steering wheel. Reverse the instructions to replace the steering wheel. Steering wheel retainer nut should be 30 ft. lbs. torque.
first take the cover for the horn off. there will be a large nut in the center. take that off. there is also three screws around it. take those off and remove the ring they hold on. take a steering wheel puller and connect it onto the steering wheel. turn the center bolt clockwise until the steering wheel comes off. to reinstall the steering wheel, you just have to press it on by screwing the big nut back on.
