T50 or T55
3/4" wrench
The Ford Explorer engines use a timing CHAIN
You don't need a torque wrench when you unscrew something.
Only a wrench to rotate the belt tensioner to releive the belt tension. You have to get at it via the passenger-side front wheel well. The longer the length of the wrench, the better.
No nothing special. However if you need a "wrench" to remove it I prefer a "Strap Wrench which can be used on oil filters up to a 6" (152mm) diameter. It Strong nylon belt will not slip. Use with 1/2" square drive tools."
Your 4.0 L - OHV - V6 engine has a timing CHAIN
I believe it is a FTX500
There is no adjustment . It is a serpentine belt (one continuous belt) that rotates all pulleys for each belt driven component. the tension is adjusted automatically by the tensiometer located at the front of the engine on the passenger side right across from crankshaft pulley. However there are worn belt indicator marks on the side of the tensiometer pulley that tell you if the belt needs replacement. to release tension , use a long ratchet or wrench and turn wrench ,believe counter clock wise, only moderate torque is needed. If not ,turn clockwise. do this when replacing belt or component, such as alternator.
The Explorer 4.0 does not have a timing belt. Both the regular 4.0 or SOHC model have timing chains. The SOHC, I think has the timing chain at the back of the engine.
Check your Serpentine Belt and pulleys. The Serpentine Belt maybe in need of replacement.
a T-50 star bit is needed to remove the bolt
The explorer has a timing chain, not a belt.
