My girlfriend has a 2006 escape and I ran into the same problem trying to change her brakes and none of the Allen wrenches fitting. The '06 needed a 9 mm Allen, so I'm assuming the 05 would need the same?! Good Luck!

I have a 2006 Tribute, 4wd, discs on front and back. I just did the brakes today. Front calipers are 9mm, back ones are 7mm.
If I'm not mistaken, 14mm for the caliper bolts, 17mm for the caliper brackets.
Depends on what type of caliper you have. They will either be Teves or akebono, if they are teves it is 18mm and akebono im not sure i think 13mm. However both will require a 7mm Allen wrench as well.
Use the wrench that came with the car. Turn counter clockwise.
Try spraying them with WD-40 and let iot sit on there for a while. If that does not work try a 4 way lug wrench .
Break lugs loose, jack up corner of car in question (by frame) Remove lugs with lug wrench & pull tire. You may have plastic covers on the lugs... simply unscrew and hubcap comes off
1st drain the radiator Disconnect the battery & then you have to get the fan off. Do this by putting a wrench on it and then taping the wrench this acts like an impact hammer. If you try and turn the wrench everything moves. Once the fan is removed pull it out if there is room, if not proceed to take the fan shroud off (should be 2 bolts on each side)and lift it out with the fan in it. You should disconnect the coolant overflow hose from the radiator and slide the window washer fluid tank (if it's attached)up off of the shroud. 2nd unloosen the water pump pully bolts(4) but do not remove. 3rd remove the belt and now you can take the bolts out of the water pump pully and remove it. 4th disconnect the heater & radiator hoses, remove pump bolts and pry pump off. You may have to buy a separate heater return tube if one does not come with the new pump.

Most likely a 15mm wrench. Unlikely to be Allen in that vehicle.
You need a 3/8" allan key or hex socket - not a torx
Metric Allen wrench.
It will be a 14 or 17 mm wrench.
You need a 15 mm regular wrench.

use an Allen wrench not a socket or open or box wrench.
