Brazil was originally conquered and colonized by Portugal. The Spanish-speaking countries were conquered and colonized by Spain.
None south american country was captured by Portugal. Portugal discovered and colonized Brazil, and the other countries in south america were colonized mainly by Spain.
Brazil.
South American countries where Spanish is spoken are those who were colonized by Spain. These countries are: Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. Brazil was colonized by Portugal so they speak Portuguese Suriname was colonized by the Netherlands so they speak Dutch Guyana was colonized by the United Kingdom so they speak English French Guyana was colonized by France, so the speak French :)
Because it was colonized by the Spanish and Portuguese.
I think it was Brazil because it was colonized by the Portuguese.
Brazil is the only country in Latin America that speaks Portuguese due to its colonial history. When Portugal colonized Brazil in the 16th century, Portuguese became the official language and eventually replaced indigenous languages. Other Latin American countries were mainly colonized by Spain, which is why Spanish is the predominant language in the region.
If Spain wouldn't of colonized South American countries, they would have no spanihs languge or cultures
Portugal and Spain
The countries of the Middle East were colonies of a number of countries. The most were colonies of Britain, however, there were some other colonies of Portugal, Russia, the Netherlands, and France.
Portuguese isn't spoken in the Central American countries. There are seven countries in Central America. In Belize, the offiicial language is English. In the other six countries, Spanish is the official language. For Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama weren't colonized by the Portuguese. The Treaty of Tordesillas, in 1497, regulated the settlement of the Americas. A dividing line was marked on the charts and maps, to remind Portugal and Spain exactly where their zones of influence were to be in the New World. The line was just enough west to allow Brazil to be claimed, and colonized, by Portugal. Everything on the other side of the line was intended for Spain.
i don't know if it's an example, but a way its clear is because most south American countries speak spanish, which is because they were colonized originally by Spain
