Improper fluid level. Transmission shift cable broken or misadjusted. Improper band/clutch application pressure. Fluid filter damaged or plugged. Main control assembly gaskets damaged or bolt out of torque. Main control separator plate damaged. Pump assembly bolts out of specifications. Reverse clutch burnt, worn, or leaking. Direct/reverse servo piston seal cut/leaking. Probably lost the reverse clutch.
i had spirit that had the same problem i had the tranny rediult and it hasn't had a problem since.
does it shift into reverse and wont drive? if so its your tranny it needs to be replaced
I had this problem in my 2007. the forward sprag was broken. i still had 1st, 2nd 3rd and reverse but no drive.
tranny could be gone.or you may need tranny fluid or you have too much tranny fluid.
Did you ever get this resolved? I ran into the EXACTLY identical problem. Please post if you got it diagnosed/fixed.
My trailblazer works fine both forward and backwards! Yours however sounds like you blew the reverse band in the transmission and need a new tranny. Or your against something that is holding you from behind.
you have a problem in your torque converter or transmission pump
could be bad mounts on either the tranny or engine?
Tranny is going out
Powerbrake the vehicle in drive and reverse and if you see them jump under hood, you may have a bad engine/tranny mount
There are several things that can cause your 1995 Chevy Cavalier transmission not to go into drive or reverse. The most common cause is a lack of transmission fluid. A broken shifting fork will also cause the problem.
NO. You have a serious problem. A tranny pro is in order. At 40K miles, my Chevrolet S10 Blazer lost reverse. Since the car was under warranty at that time, I was able to continue to take it to the dealer until they finally figured out the problem. It took them 8 attempts with a "computer diagnostic" until I lost reverse completely. At that time, they were obligated to fix the problem before they could give the car back to me. It was the valve body that needed replacement.
