It uses a fluid called synchromesh. You can buy it at the dealer or most parts stores carry it. The only brand I've seen in a part store is made by Pennzoil. It takes 2 quarts if completely empty.
I am converting a ford ranger automatic (a4ld) transmission 4wd to a 5 speed manual from a 4 cylinder ford ranger. Will it work. What is needed?
Very bad idea. You either need a very deep billfold or a donor car. Sell this car and by one with a Manual. You will be money ahead.
I just looked it up on autozone.com and two results came back. You can use Dextron III/ Mercon or ATF+4. But you can call them to be sure.
Owner's manual.
Yes, it can be done. The best way is to buy a wrecked car with a manual transmission to use as the donor. That way you will have all of the parts needed for the transplant. It is likely that you will need to purchase some parts new, such as the clutch pieces and the master cylinder.
75-90 gear oil
